Review: Mulberry Agenda (Darwin leather)

I was lucky enough to find this Mulberry agenda that someone was selling after admiring Janet Carr’s pictures of hers. The Darwin leather seems to be a favourite amongst Mulberry fans. To be honest, I wasn’t even aware that the planner that I was purchasing was a Darwin. I just liked how it looked on the picture! And of course I also loved the layout of the pockets.

So when it arrived, I was….strangely not in love! I even thought for a time that perhaps it was a fake! It didn’t feel like I thought it would be. And the pen loop was spoiled! 😦

After asking some questions I figured out that it was Darwin leather and mine was genuine, I decided to give it a chance. I lived in it for one week (my normal trial period) and would decide at the end of the week if I would keep it or not.

At the end of the week, I had grown to like it. It didn’t feel so strange anymore. I think the leather just didn’t have any moisture from sitting neglected in a drawer. I tucked in the part of the pen loop that was sticking out and it caused no problems since. I could slip pens in and out without it coming apart.

Perhaps it was the spoiled pen loop, the feel of the leather, or the fact that it didn’t meet my expectations at first, I still decided to sell it even though I had grown to like it. I have since sold this planner and it is on its way to its current owner :). I managed to get the pen loop fixed by a local tailor who had fixed a tear in my leather jacket once. He did a fantastic job!

So now I am wondering if to try to get another Mulberry in the new vegetable tanned leather (I’m quite curious and like the look of the oak leather) or try to find another Mulberry with the same pocket layout… or give up and get a Van der Spek… 😀

‘Till next time
