What to do with all those old/extra diary inserts?

A while back I posted this question on the Filofax for Philofaxy Fans facebook page. I thought it would be nice to share with you the responses I received. 🙂
“Cover them with washi tapes and use a date stamp.”

“I cover the dates and use them as daily/weekly note paper for events to put in my diary so i don’t forget something during the day!”

“I was going to suggest covering the dates with washi, you could then either write new dates or even use the pages for something else, maybe a journal or to write down a daily quote or scripture, maybe a daily gratitude journal just to list something you are thankful for each day. The possibility are endless”

“Some people use them as menu tracker”

“I’ve seen some people use them upside down as notepaper”

“I don’t remember ever having unused inserts. If I did, I would use washi tape and re-date them for use when there is a lot going on in my days or weeks.”

“Cover the dates and use for anything daily – meal plans, to dos, routines. Or just as notepaper.”

“I covered the days and repurposing for this year . Just change in the washi tape new day”

“I use them to count my knitted rows, can use as shopping lists, use while on the phone for notes. Some people turn them upside down first. Also with the pocket size I put them in with personal size in a filofax”

“If you can hang onto them for 13 more years, the dates will be good again.”

“2025 will be a common year starting on a Wednesday, like 2014.”

“All great ideas. Here I was thinking either compost or kindling.”

“I have an invented word document to get rid of the preset FF column appt times. Your printer may have other ideas, however LOL”

“Send them as 2015 Christmas cards? (Just kidding!)”

“I put them in a file box with all the other old Filofax inserts I never used, of course, and every year when I add another batch, I look at them, shake my head, and wonder if I’m sane. I don’t know why I don’t just compost them.”

So there you have it! Some great and funny ideas from the community. I hope this helps some of you out there. I for one know that these helped me, and I have already repurposed some 2014 pocket inserts. I am now using them as a day per page insert when I have a really busy day or have a lot of ‘to-do’s’.

I also like that I’m not wasting paper. I’d like to think of myself as an environmentally conscious person, but my love of paper sometimes leaves me feeling guilty. I mean, do I really need all those planners and diaries? But they give me pleasure as well as keep me organised, and being able to not throw paper away unnecessarily helps in the guilt free enjoyment of my many Filofaxes.

If you have any more ideas on how to use up old diary inserts, please feel free to share by leaving a comment below.

‘Till next time,
P.

  1. These are great ideas! I got 6 months worth of inserts with my organiser that were already behind me, so they’re currently shoved in with my notepaper. I might use them for story planning, for stuff that’s crammed into a short timeframe.
